Airport Continues to Balance Noise Concerns with Operations

11 February 2011

Sydney Metro Airport Bankstown today announced the implementation of changes to circuit training times for fixed wing aircraft.

“Our noise abatement procedures will change from 7 March 2011, bringing forward the finishing time for circuits from 11pm to 10pm Monday to Friday. During the daylight saving period the finishing time has been reduced from 11pm to 10.30pm,” said Mr Colin Grove, CEO, Sydney Metro Airport Bankstown.

“We consider this is a balanced measure in response to community concerns with aircraft noise. It is strong evidence of our willingness to both listen and act upon community concerns, whilst still maintaining the Airport’s operational and commercial requirements.

“Following the extensive consultation from our Master Plan process, the Airport has implemented a number of changes to aircraft operations to improve the conditions for the surrounding community. The measures have been delivered in consultation with the local aviation industry.

“The measures include a later starting time for helicopter circuit activity on Sundays from what was previously 6am to a friendlier time of 9am. Together with the changes to circuit operations we have also implemented tighter operating procedures to reduce the amount of noise generated from aviation operators based adjacent to residential areas,”

We continue to meet with and listen to the concerns of local residents and Members of Parliament. The Bankstown Community Aviation Consultation Forum continues its role as a productive forum to receive community concerns and conversely inform and educated the community about Airport operational issues.

“The Airport remains genuinely committed to striking a balance between the local community needs and airport operations,” concluded Mr Grove.

Ends.
