Airport Forum Strengthens Community Relations

15 February 2013

The Camden Airport Community Aviation Consultation Group, convened by Sydney Metro Airport Camden, continues to give local residents, airport users’ businesses and other interested stakeholders a voice in the Airport’s operations.

The Group compromises community members, council representatives, airport tenants, airport operators, regulators, and air traffic controllers.

Reviewing the Group’s second year of operation, Airport CEO Colin Grove commented “We consider the Group has been a great success in building productive relationship between the Airport and the Camden community.

The Group comprises community members, council representatives, airport tenants, airport operators and has observer members including interested stakeholders, regulators, and air traffic controllers.

The Group also reviews aircraft noise complaints recorded by Air Services Australia on their noise complaints hotline (1300-302-240).   Over the past twelve months, the Group has canvassed a wide variety of matters including airport operations, aircraft noise, environment, safety and potential development.

“Representations from community representatives in the Group have been successful in bringing about a reduction in noise from Aircraft operating from the airport and on other environmental issues.    Importantly, the Group has worked on the development of a Fly Friendly Policy to improve the noise footprint around the Airport and to educate the pilots about the noise impact generated from aviation activities.

The management of the environment at Camden Airport is an ongoing issue for the Group, looking at bushland regeneration, groundwater monitoring, and feral pest management and other topics.

“The Group commences its work for 2013 in March.   We do encourage people who are interested in the group to contact the Chair through the Airport (9796 2300) to raise any issues for discussion,” concluded Mr Grove.
