Airport Safety

Airport safety is paramount in all operations at Bankstown, Camden and Hoxton Park Airports, and is supported by comprehensive airside rules and a team of airport Duty Operations Officers. The following essential safety rules apply to each airport, and are enforceable by fines or by removal from airport property:
  • Vehicles must give way to moving aircraft and be aware of safety distances when driving near parked and refueling aircraft.
  • Drivers must not drive on the maneuvering area unless the driver holds an appropriate authority to drive airside and the vehicle has an authority for airside access.
  • You must obey all speed limits and parking restrictions within the airport.
  • No seat no ride on any type of vehicle.
  • Any accidents which cause personal or property damage should be reported to the Duty Operations Officer.
  • Airside is a NO SMOKING area – this includes inside vehicles
BAL produces a detailed guide to safety on the airports, and all airport users should read the Airside Safety Guide. Additional detailed rules for airside driving can be found in Rules for Drivers Operating Airside. Both of these publications can be obtained the Bankstown Airport management offices.

Concurrently all user of our facilities have an obligation to understand and apply all relevant legislation including the Occupational Health & Safety Act, N.S.W. Workcover requirements etc.

Airport Security

Bankstown Airport is a Security Controlled Airport and is regulated and audited by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, whilst security standards at Camden and Hoxton Park Airports meet and in some areas exceed the minimum CASA standards.

Our Duty Operations Officers conduct routine patrols on airside operating areas and the NSW Police have a permanent presence on Bankstown Airport. Access to airside operating areas at the Sydney Metropolitan Airports can only be obtained for business, or operational reasons. Please contact the Bankstown Management Centre for details on airside access on (02) 9796 2300.

Airport users and tenants are responsible for ensuring that their property and buildings have adequate security to prevent break-ins and theft. In the case of an emergency or where a crime is in progress the NSW Police should be contacted on "000".

If you have access to our perimeter gate system, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE to ensure gates are closed and secure after use.
